After Day 3 workout

I'm glad to hear that my PCP teammates are all feeling sore -- not because I want them to be in pain, but because it tells me that all the soreness I'm feeling is normal! I'm actually liking it, though, because it feels like my muscles are waking up. It's not so bad that I can't do my normal activities, but just a little reminder throughout the day that I'm actually using my body and pushing it a little bit.

I find my mind jumping ahead to the workouts we'll do in a few weeks and wondering how I'll ever get through them. Then I bring myself back to today's workout and try not to think about the future. I have faith that I'll be prepared when I get there.

PCP = lots of laundry! When I was going for a (half-hearted) run three days a week, I only needed three sports bras. Jumping rope is super-sweaty, though, so more workout clothes needed per week. I always remember some old Nike ad that said "a good running week is a bad laundry week." May we all have bad laundry weeks!

This is fun.

  1. Tara - I'm having the same thoughts about the laundry dilemma! As you know from living in NYC, I don't have laundry in my apt let alone in my building, so it's a schlep to do it. I think this is going to be my plan: buy enough sports bras to last me 2 weeks of PCP (hoping to find some on sale! i think i have 4 now). Then i'm just going to buy an extra set of undies that will be my PCP workout undies. The beauty of working out at home = don't have to wear clothes! haha
I think this plan is on track to not overwhelm the laundry pile.

  2. T - I've learned to love the soreness I get after a great long run or weights workout. It reminds me that I really did something, and I much prefer the occasional sharp ache to the general feeling of muzziness.

  3. Elena, I feel you! I was fortunate enough to have laundry in my building everywhere I lived in NYC, but even that got tough once I had a baby. Can't take a napping baby down in the elevator to change the laundry! I'm in a house now, with my own w/d, and it is a blessing. I think your plan sounds great! I'm definitely enjoying working out at home, so I don't feel like I have to look put-together. :)

Miss Hectic Red -- You are watching me indeed! I'm going to come visit you this summer and I know you'll help me stay on track! :)

  4. Yes ladies, more sports bras are needed pronto! Make sure they are really supportive for all that jumping! Although what's inside them will probably shrink a bit.

  5. I too like feeling sore. It's also a great to learn about anatomy. When you're sore you'll have all these little epiphanies throughout the day, like, "Hey, I use my obliques when I open a jar of pickles!" Neat stuff.

  6. Haha, it is so true about the jar of pickles. This is what I love about yoga too -- the increased body awareness, the way you instinctively start to align your body better and recruit major muscle groups into little daily tasks like opening a jar or filling a water pitcher or picking up a sock -- thus not only making those jobs easier and more graceful but also avoiding the ignominy of having to tell people you threw your back out picking up a sock....

  7. We have laundry in the building but I am the WORST at laundry so it piles up until there is literally nothing to wear. My son agreed, this morning, that laundry is my weakest skill, but, he said, "You're good at everything else." I thought of that all day. What a sweet thing to say! Of course I was doing HIS laundry mostly.

Must get a sports bra. I keep falling out of the regular one that I am wearing when I jump. I am so so so new at all this.

  8. oh Deborah, get a sports bra NOW! it will make the jumping feel easier, because you'll feel a bit more...tucked in? I guess that's the best way to describe it.

  9. Gotta get a sports bra or two, Deborah. I need a fair amount of support so 2 cheap ones at once or one pricey one all by itself. This is where spending a little money can be well worth it! Target has plenty of decent ones. Good luck! (And I'm off to empty the dryer...)

  10. God, I guess I'll invest in a sportsbra...
Maybe I'll do laundry some day as well. Good idea! lovely post

  11. Sports bra, tell me about it!!!!!! Now that I'm jumping in the morning before work and doing the rest of the workout at lunchtime at the gym (do not attempt this at home, unless Obi-wan gives you clearance), I'm doubling down on the already crazy laundry....
